Signup forms must DIE

Progressive Profiling from Jeff Ogden on Vimeo.

What is Progressive Profiling?

If  you've ever filled out a long and tedious signup form, you've experienced the need for progressive profiling.

Here's an example of a long and tedious form. Please don't fill it out.  We don't do that to our fans.  Just scroll down below the form to see a better way.

* = required

Enter progressive profiling

Progressive profiling is the process of collecting information over time, gradually.  We only need a system smart enough to keep asking the right questions.  As a result, we can ask for very little information at the start.

In this example, we ask only for first name, last name and email.  That's it.  In future visits we'll ask for company name, title, employee count, etc. -- just a bit at a time.

Our goal is to build a relationship over time and build trust.

* = required

Since we live in a Twitter, YouTube world, people no longer wish to complete long complex forms.  They give up.  But what if we could ask over time?
